While perhaps not the most appealing of creatures, the cockroach is very much a part of human lives - and it's always wise to get to know your neighbours!
This is a well designed factual text with double-page spreads about various aspects of cockroach life and behaviour - habitats, food, mating, physical structure, their adaptation to humans etc. Each double page ‘chapter' has two levels of text - a section in larger print, using simpler vocabulary and shorter sentences, suitable for children reading alone; and paragraphs in smaller font using more complex vocabulary, containing more detailed information, for more advanced readers. A highlighted column on the far side of each right-hand page provides the kinds of curious facts that appeal to wider readers. There are plenty of clear, detailed photographs to illustrate and supplement the text.
A very useful resource for those interested in minibeasts - teachers and students.
