Did you know that stars are actually ‘filled with our ideas, dreams and inventions... our IMAGININGS'? Jeffrey didn't either, until his sister let him in on the secret - a secret that keeps him awake with the wonder of it. So when he sees a star fall he wonders if someone, somewhere, has given up on their imagination and rushes out into the dark on a rescue mission.

This very beautiful first picture book demonstrates that Sarah Kate Mitchell is an author/illustrator to watch. Although slightly text-heavy, as if Mitchell wasn't entirely convinced that readers would understand the nuances of her slightly surreal, dark-toned, highly tactile paintings, Starry Starry Night is a very special picture book - one that will draw readers into that tingling, exciting time of night when the world is full of mysterious possibilities.

Highly recommended.

Gifted children vary a lot. Some are great at sports. Some have disabilities. Children can be gifted or not along one or more of a large number of dimensions. Labels like "gifted" need to be used carefully as all children are different.
