Stanford Binet V

The Stanford Binet psychological intelligence assessment batteries have been released in different versions over time, with version V the current version. Each version tailors the set of questions asked in the assessment according to changes in general education, communication and culture. Each version is also renormed statistically against a large population so that the results of individual assessments can be statistically compared with a large up-to-date base population.
The range of questions and the extent of the statistical norming undertaken can extend or restrict the usefulness of the battery for gifted children. Many intelligence tests are not able to discriminate reliably between intelligence quotients above outside a certain range.

Fiona Smith, a NSW psychologist with significant experience with gifted children, provides an excellent article entitled "The Advantages of Using the Stanford-Binet Version 5 When Assessing Gifted Individuals". The article describes the structure of the test and explains why the test is of interest in assessing gifted students.

THE INFORMATION Centre contains a huge range of articles intended to assist parents, care-givers, teacher/ducators and others interested in gifted children and their issues.

The majority of Information Centre articles will be restricted to Financial Members with just an introductory paragraph available for non-Financial Members so they know what they are missing! Please become a Financial Member both to gain full access and to help the NSWAGTC work in the interests of gifted children.

  • Email the webmaster to ask to be given "author" status after you have registered on the site or if you have any problems or issues or other suggestions

The NSWAGTC encourages a wide range of quality resource items. Each item is nonetheless written by individuals with varying experience and perspectives of gifted children and represents the author's views, rather than necessarily those of the NSWAGTC (unless they are marked as Position Statements).
