"Q&A on Testing" - Online Conference

The NSWAGTC's second 2011 online conference, running from Monday 14-Friday 18 November, presents a panel of experts ready to answer your questions on testing of gifted children - covering its merits and limitations, the variety of tests and their jargon, and most other aspects of testing.

Our three experts are:

  • Lizette Campbell - Lizette is both an Educational and Developmental Psychologist and a Clinical Psychologist.  She has more than 25 years experience working with gifted and 2e students.
  • Rosemary Hammerton - In her dual roles as Gifted Education Coordinator K-12 and private consultant, Rosemary has tested many hundreds of students using a variety of instruments. She also works with teachers and schools to develop equitable identification procedures for their gifted programs.
  • Fiona Smith - Fiona’s expertise is in assessing and counselling gifted and creative children and working with teachers and parents to help address their needs. She is a registered Psychologist and has a Masters Degree in Education, majoring in Gifted Education.

Between them they cover the range of testing that gifted children may face from individual psychometric testing to school-based tests.

The panellists will introduce themselves and their viewpoints on testing but this conference will be primarily driven by your questions.

Get your questions in early so that our presenters have the chance to respond. Don't wait for the online conference to start on Monday 14 November, put them up in the forum today!

There are of course some guidelines to which we ask you to pay particular attention:

  1. Do not identify any child by name - and now would be a good time to ensure that your online username is anonymous - remember identification might be embarrassing later even if not now
  2. Do not ask for a critique or comment on a psychologist's report or for detailed analysis of individual sub-test results
  3. Understand that most psychological tests are commercially restricted, so licensed practitioners cannot provide specific details about what is in the tests
  4. Understand that the panellists might respond to your questions in an answer to a range of similar questions

This conference is for NSWAGTC members - if you wish to participate please join here and gain all the benefits that membership offers. If you are a member already go straight to the online forum conference before it starts on 14 November and ask your question! As this is a free event with unlimited capacity there is no need to register.

Did you know?

Gifted children vary a lot. Some are great at sports. Some have disabilities. Children can be gifted or not along one or more of a large number of dimensions. Labels like "gifted" need to be used carefully as all children are different.
