Changes Afoot!
Sunday, 28 November 2010 12:47
As we move to the end of another year, it is time to think about the next year and what will be new for 2011. Technology, workshops, information and advocacy - all this and more!
We are working towards greater use of technology in our processes - we have started this by updating our website, generating a range of forums for discussion and working to keep our content current and changing. Being a registered site member provides you with access to the welcome mat forum, our enewsletter, the blogs, our events pages and some information. Being a registered financial member will allow you to access specific forums and further information and support. During 2011 we will be looking at providing the journal optionally as online or hardcopy to financial members; we will be developing our website to enable you to renew your membership and register for events on line. This will facilitate easier confirmation for you as well as streamline our processing. You will more about this in the next few months.
We will be letting you know soon as well how our library will work in 2011, and how you will be able to purchase resources for your family through us.
Of course, we recognise thet key to our support for you is the face to face contact with our events/office staff and our committee members. Getting to know these representatives of the Association can help you voice your needs, become involved as well and support the work that we are continuing to do.
Some events are already planned for 2011: a forum for 2e* families - where there is giftedness and other things happening for children. The aim of this forum is to provide information, different views and most importantly to gather together the ideas, questions and concerns of those present for preparation of a document that can be used for advocacy. Keep an eye out for this exciting event in May.
We are looking at running an event for early childhood centres and workers, building their capacities to provide enriched and appropriate content for young gifted children. We'd love to run a Youth event addressing issues of youth - though at this point this is an idea! Any suggestions welcome!
Of course, we will continue with our regular workshops and community information sessions. Your feedback on these really helps us to develop them to best suit those participating.
So much to do and so many ideas! Perhaps you are able to contribute in some way to our Association? Please contact me if you have ideas or skills to help.
Just in...
Did you know?

NSWAGTC Blogs
The blogs appearing on the NSWAGTC site are designed to provide colour, news and subjective views about the many issues and concerns facing gifted children and their parents, care-givers and educators. Some of the blogs are associated with formal roles of the NSWAGTC, such as the President and the Webmaster. These allow the persons filling these roles to note to members any current news and changes. Other NSWAGTC blogs are written by individuals with experience of gifted children from one or more perspectives - for example Cate's Blog is from the viewpoint of a primary school teacher and parent of gifted children. These blogs are written solely by the person identified and represent his or her views, rather than necessarily those of the NSWAGTC. Comments are invited We invite comments on our blog entries, by both financial members and registered users (free). Click here to register. Comments may be reviewed and those considered inappropriate will be deleted. New blogs? We would also be delighted to consider applications from potential bloggers provided that the applicant accepts that this will be subject to a review process and may well be declined for any number of reasons which may not be shared with the applicant. Applications, which should include a resume and a vision for the potential blog, and suggestions for new blogs, can be sent in the first instance to the webmaster. |
